Day 1: Arrival

The day started with arrival at Guyot at 7:00 so we could leave for Philadelphia airport. Note this is quite a late gathering time, usually its done at 4:30 and i see the sunrise at Newark. The flight from Philly to Denver was uneventful though we had some fun clear air turbulence coming from the Rockies. The flight from Denver to Albuquerque was fun with a very exciting landing.
Ah, Richard has lost his hacky-sack on top of a pillar. So they made a long rope thingy to try to get it down. It's still up there.

Day 2: Metamorphics

This was one of the new days that was added to the itinerary. We visited the Sandia mountains to the south-east of Albuquerque.
After a nice meal at the Frontier Restaurant we arrived at the site.
View of the road.
Here's looking at a group of us looking at some quartzite, metamorphosed sandstone. Ya, I had climbed this ridge looking for tasty cactus pears.
There's sherpa Laura '05 posing by a fold.
Margee '05 resting on a granite boulder. No, you can't see lineation on this photo. There's Rada '06 in the background. Ya, this was after lunch, which reminds me... Remember when Linc told us the skin of the prickly pears were edible? Well then why do animals spit those out?
Here's a good view of the area with the Socorro mountains in the back. We had climbed around on a fruitless search for kyanite. We might've found one but Jamitto doesn't believe it.
Lizard.
Beetle.

Day 3: More Metastuff

This time to the north of Alb.
Hmm, a little more bushy then yesterday.
Ah, a Thunderbird petroglyph! Note it's resemblance to a pterodactyl.
There's us looking at some heavy folding.

THE GREAT UNCONFORMITY! Yeah Punks!

Group shot: Starting from the left; Carly '04, Richard '05, Tim '05, Warren '05, Will '05, Yinan '05, then Margee '05, Rada '06, Jamitto '07 and in the back, Professors Jason Morgan and Lincoln Hollister. And the Great Unconformity in the background.
Here's with Laura in place of me.
A few of us walked back the usual way while others decided to climb a ridge. See them?
Closeup, sherpa Laura.

To the Next Day!
Back to Selection!
