Festival of the Sheep and the start of Field Collecting

April 20th began the festival of the sheep and I was invited to dine with Mr.Ihmadi and his family while Maia went for a 20 km run (she's a vegetarian). Later on I met her at the 20km site and we started collecting, which went on for the next two days as well.

Another rooftop picture of Alnif. Lots of open air structures around here since it rains at most twice a year.

And that would be a sheep.

Each family purchases a sheep on this day and there are prayers and ceremonies for the sheep before it is killed.

There's a big fossil crocodile skull.

Here we are at Alnif's Kasbah, which houses around 15-20 large families.

A view of the Kasbah, there's the town's main mosque's minaret in the background.

Another view of the Kasbah structure.

Back to site 1, there's a view of the hill with our car in front of it.

Another view of the terrain around here, kinda looks like the Serengeti doesn't it?

There's a big shell.

There Maia striking a 'Yinan' pose.

Here's a view towards the section we did.

A closeup of our section. We covered the 300 meter section from the top of the hill on the left to the end of the small mound on the right.

There's another view of the section, looking west. Check out the even layering.

Cool! Maia found a big shell.

There are a couple of trilobites hiding in this picture.

Another shot of the site, with moonrising.

There's the sunset on another fine collecting day.

Same from our hotel in Alnif.
