Day 5! Its all dry heat...

Morning started with a local outcrop. There's an obvious fault here.

Oh, and its all volcanics.

There's a view of the "Chaos". And the town of Shoshone.

There's Maia next the Chaos.

What are these plants? They were everywhere and followed a 3 fold fractal.

Welcome to Death Valley California. There's telescope peak in the range.

That's a turtle back feature on the right. Salt flats / evaporites in front.

Badwater, 282 ft below sea level.

Badwater basin and Turtleback.

The salt.

An archway. This was our long hike up an alluvial wash to find the contact with the turtleback.

Lunch on the turtleback.

Here's Linc showing off an outcrop. Wait till he finds out that its really a giant fossil Protozoic organism.

Hiking out.

Another view of the basin.

Another crater?

Yup, Ubehebe crater, a volcanic crater, not as big as meteor crater.

Hiking up to the rim of a secondary crater.

A look back.

This is interesting, see those round things in lines? Those are ant nests.

For some reason they line up.

Maybe they're moving towards certain resources.

Sunset in Stovepipe Wells, California.
Venus.
Saturn.

Mercury, a very rare photo, its that blob like thing slightly right of center.

Now its near the horizon.

Next Day.
