Day 2! The Big Hike!

I think this is obvious. Its BIG. Ya, its the grand canyon. We're up at 7,200 ft above sea level. The Colorado river in the middle of the canyon is at 2,000 ft. All this was done in about 6 million years, fast.

I don't think the camera is built for something this big, you've gotta see it for yourself. Your mind will go blank for a second due to the incomprehensible bigness of this place.

Here's our gang on the edge. There's Ana, Jiffe '05, John, Mark, and Ben.

And me of course. Like I'd pass up a chance to pose here.

Here's another shot from the edge.

We took the south Kaibab trail. It goes down about 2000 ft and has a total length of 6 miles. Keep in mind you're still a few thousand feet above sea level. The air is thin. There's the Kaibab limestone.

There's another of those mars rock like thingies.

There's Linc, our main professor, talking about the limestone.

That's a cool outcrop. Ya, there's still snow up here.

There's a look down the section, that's about an elevation difference of 1000 ft.

There's our group. That's Tasha '07, Greg on the right, and Karen on the left.

Squirrel Attack!

I think my squirrel species collection is up to 6 now.

Here's another lookout.

Cross bedding. So which way is the wind going? Left.

Another pose.

Fossil tracks!

There's another nice view.

Pretty. Oh, there's a nice cave.

Now thats a room with a view.

Looking back.

More fossil tracks.

Finally, there's the Colorado river.

Closeup.

Big Sky.

I liked the colors in this one. And most of the group is in here.

Here they come, Bianca leading.

And we all make it back up, after 6 hours.

Next Day!
Selection Screen.
